Life is short- use the beautiful tool!
A lame is used to make expansion cuts in your bread so the steam can escape in a controlled way. Some people call this tool a “bread slasher” or “sourdough slasher,” but that sounds much less elegant than “lame”.
For years I used a razor blade in my hand to score my sourdough loaves. Then I upgraded to this beautiful tool and fell in love with it. It works very well, and the blades are easy to change.
Bonus: now I don’t cut myself anymore 🙂
